Minutes of the meeting of 8/16/17
Meeting Opened at: 9am
Select Board Members Present: Carol Edelman and Kenneth Basler
Also in attendance: Chief Backhaus, Cliff Weiss, Nat Yohalem
Miscellaneous Items Reviewed:
- The Board met with Chief Backhaus to discuss/review the following:
a. Surrounding town survey of full time officer salaries
b. The Board expressed that they are pleased with the current part time officers and their demeanor when responding to calls.
c. The deadline to submit resumes is August 28th. Resumes will be prescreened by a small group and then interviews will occur at the next Select Board meeting.
- Cliff Weiss came in to summarize the Complete Streets seminar he recently attended with regards to future road work projects incorporating bike paths. The Board would like more information on the Complete Streets Program before deciding on whether to participate.
- The Board discussed the upcoming workshop hosted by the BRPC regarding the marijuana legislation.
- The Board met with Shawn Tryon to discuss the following:
a. Curtis Rd Bridge – Shawn and Kenn will meet this week to review the plans received for the proposed temporary repair.
b. The Board is interested in meeting with Shawn, Terry Walker, Melissa and Cliff Weiss to discuss our future involvement in the Complete Streets program.
c. The Board commended Shawn and Melissa on their work in creating the project tracking spreadsheet.
- The Board met with New Marlborough Selectman, Nat Yohalem to discuss the following:
a. Shared services: Results so far has been an $84k savings to New Marlborough and Sheffield with their purchase of a shared mower which has a formal agreement between the towns. Meetings are held in Sheffield. Next meeting is Sept 7 at 6:30pm and the discussion will be about sharing police and fire personnel and equipment and it is suggested that in addition to a Board member attending, the fire and police chiefs should also attend.
b. The Board asked for an update on New Marlborough’s broadband progress.
- Thursday’s school committee meeting: Carol and Maryellen Brown will both be in attendance.
- Minutes from 8/9/17 were approved.
- Administrative Assistant’s weekly report was reviewed. Time off request was approved.
A motion was made and unanimously approved to adjourn the meeting at: 11:15am
